Officers from the Yorktown Police Department stopped Carmel resident David Gonzalez, 44, at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday while on patrol on Lexington Avenue after he allegedly failed to maintain his lane and had a broken brake light.
During the subsequent traffic stop, police said that a driver’s license check determined that Gonzalez was in violation of a duly served Order of Protection involving his passenger, 21-year-old Carmel resident Jessica Taylor. He was also in possession of marijuana and an illegal gravity knife.
Police said that Gonzalez has a previous conviction for a crime, which elevated his current charges. It was later determined that Taylor was also in possession of a marijuana cigarette, leading to her arrest.
Gonzalez was arrested and charged with a felony count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor. He was also cited for unlawful possession of marijuana. Taylor was charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of marijuana.
Following arraignment, both Gonzalez and Taylor were remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of bail. Each are due back in Yorktown Justice Court on Feb. 22 to answer the charges.
